Construction of Mini-Football Fields in the Issyk-Kul Region
Over the last three years, through the joint efforts of Kumtor, local youth committees and local authorities, mini-football fields have been built in multiple villages across the Issyk-Kul region in the Kyrgyz Republic.
In 2018 and 2019, Kumtor contributed more than US$210,000 to the construction of eight football fields.
Promoting Healthy Lifestyles and Youth Development
The football fields have real and meaningful impacts on the local community.
They have helped promote a healthy and active lifestyle among the younger generation in the participating communities, and also helped lead to the establishment of new junior football teams in the communities, from which select players were invited to play for Asian football teams in the Champions League.
For example, in the village of Tamga, Kumtor co-financed the building of a mini-football field. Although the population of the village is only 3,570 people, local teens have arranged team games every evening as football is the most popular sport among the locals. In addition, as the football field is situated on the premises of the Tamga Secondary School, training activities at the field have been made available to students in the sixth grade or higher.
Through the contributions of the community and local government, the football fields are maintained without the continued financial support of Kumtor.
