Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

DE&I Vision: Centerra Gold will put People First in every region we operate by respecting, valuing and celebrating the global power of all perspectives.

Commitment to Employees: At Centerra Gold, we commit to having a respectful and inclusive culture where all employees feel valued, empowered and free to be themselves at work and where we celebrate and leverage diverse talents across the globe.

Our DE&I Journey

In 2018, Centerra launched its gender leadership program called Leading from Within. Developed in collaboration with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the program focuses on strengthening women’s leadership skills in four key areas: knowing your worth, communicating authentically, making connections, and standing strong.

27%

In 2019, 27% of our female workforce completed Centerra’s pilot female leadership program, Leading from Within.

In 2021, our Leading from Within champions will lead a second round of training for new women in the Company and to reinforce the principles for graduates.

In 2020, Centerra Gold became a Silver Partner sponsor of International Women in Mining (IWiM), a leading global women’s organization pursuing gender equality and promoting women’s voices, access to opportunities and leadership in mining.

Centerra is committed to pursuing greater representation of women throughout our organization at all levels, and we are pleased to partner with IWiM in our aligned efforts of promoting cohesion, collaboration and a global united voice for women in the mining industry.

In 2021, Centerra enrolled two mentors and one mentee in the International Women in Resources Mentoring Program (IWRMP). For 2022, we are pleased to have two mentors participating again, and a total of six mentees enrolled in this unique six-month cross-company program that was established to promote and empower women to progress their careers, overcome professional challenges and build confidence for achievement and industry leadership.

In 2020 our global Diversity & Inclusion Steering Committee developed an 18-month roadmap in partnership with the Canadian Centre for Diversity and Inclusion (CCDI). This project includes an in-depth evaluation of Centerra’s existing demographics, policies, practices and cultural competencies, and it included a Diversity Meter Survey, focus groups, leader interviews, and the evaluation of leadership’s Intercultural Competency and has led to the creation of a global DE&I strategy and year-1 action plan due to be completed by June 2022.

With the establishment of a global plan of action to conduct a current state assessment of Centerra’s diversity, equity and inclusion status across locations, we have since launched a Global Executive DE&I Council tasked with charting the course for strategic initiatives pertaining to DE&I company-wide, along with Regional DE&I Committees to help create a safe space for questions and discussion, and support for site leaders.

As of February 2021, Centerra Gold employees have completed >800 hours of training on diversity, equity and inclusion, with a particular focus on recognizing unconscious bias.

As our work continues, issues around cultural sensitivity, equal pay for equal work, hiring, recruitment and retention practices, and camp facilities and accommodation will be considered.

Relevant Standards and Policies

We recognize that the under-representation of women, Indigenous peoples, minorities and persons with disabilities in senior mining roles is an issue for the industry globally and that to counter this, we must take concrete steps to create policies and systems conducive to fostering inclusion.
