In 2023, Centerra initiated a collaboration with the University of Arizona and various mining partners on the Arizona Initiative for Resilience & International Development (AIRID) Land Research aimed at tackling the persistent revegetation challenges in the semi-arid U.S. Southwest. The research focuses on creating a seed coating for native plant species and innovative seedbed preparation methods to improve revegetation success on mining-disturbed sites. This collaborative and interdisciplinary approach highlights the potential for transformative solutions in sustainable mining practices and ecosystem restoration. Results from this work can inform future closure planning and progressive reclamation.
