Centerra Helps Raise Men’s Health Awareness during Movember
In November 2020, Centerra’s corporate office in Toronto, Canada, launched its second Movember campaign.
Movember is a leading organization committed to changing the face of men’s health. Globally today there is, on average, a six-year life expectancy gap between men and women, with men dying for largely preventable reasons.
Since 2003, Movember has been raising funds for prostate cancer research and creating awareness around testicular cancer and men’s mental health and suicide prevention. Each November, men and women work to raise awareness and funds to assist the Movember Foundation. This is achieved in a variety of ways, including through growing mustaches or pledging to “Move for Movember” by running or walking 60 miles over the month.
According to Movember, one in nine Canadian men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime and 9.9 million men globally are living with, and beyond, the disease.
This year, Team “Facial Hairra Centerra”, which included nine men and three women, or “Mo Sistas”, fundraised for our colleagues, dads, brothers, sons and friends. Throughout Movember, we encouraged our peers to kickstart some uncomfortable conversations around men’s health with their family and friends and provided our colleagues a space to discuss issues that are so often stigmatized.
In total, our office raised C$35,000, including Centerra’s 100% match, for the Movember Foundation. 100% of the proceeds raised will go to Movember and to helping them save men’s lives.
Centerra’s Movember campaign demonstrated that even as we continue to socially distance due to COVID-19, we can successfully unite around a cause, build camaraderie, and win as a team.
